Top Three Laundry Tips

Laundry is my favorite chore. Now I know what you're thinking, "Is she crazy?" But the laundry room is my favorite space in my home and that's not by chance, I set it up that way! Here are a few things to consider when beginning an organizing extravaganza in your laundry room: make sure you can see the wash products that you have, your washer/dryer are in an area that is accessible to you, and add special touches to make it feel like home.

Decanting should be a sport. In fact, yes it definitely is a sport what am I saying? I like to decant powders such as borax or washing powder in tall glass jars with lids, and liquids such as detergent or bleach in glass dispensers with a spout. Keep them on a shelf above your washer and dryer for quick and easy access. You will easily know exactly when you need to re-fill!

Before our laundry room renovation started, the room was a mess. It was super chaotic not to mention my dryer wasn't even inside my house! I dreaded going in there and rarely finished a job from beginning to end. Clothes were either left wet in the washer or out in the dryer for days. Now, our laundry units are right next to each other and are an absolute lovely site to see. The difference can be huge when a space is truly dedicated to such a tedious chore.

Like I said, the laundry room was a disaster. It felt like a black hole full of mismatched socks and I wanted out. So, when I started the design process I had first and foremost the functionality of the space in mind but also the personality. It needed to work for my family, but also be a place where we could go and enjoy our chores we have to do (our garbage and recycling is also back there, blog post about organizing these coming soon!). I made sure to add some fun color, our signature bead board that we love using, and a few fun decor items. Now we all really enjoying going back there and taking turns with our new washer and dryer, getting to press all of the buttons (I am guilty of this), and also folding and finishing our laundry for the day.

It can be extremely rewarding when you can relax and enjoy the positive spaces that you have created in your home. Beginning this journey is not easy, but it is worth it. All it takes is one sock at a time.
